Alert: Email Scammers May Pretend to Be a City Official

Did you know that email scammers can wear a digital "mask," pretending to be a city official or staff? This isn't hacking, and is easily revealed by looking at the sender's actual email address. Replying to the sender could lead to a scam or they might reply again with a link to malware.

While this form of phishing can’t be prevented, there are steps you can take to avoid trouble:

• Make a habit of double checking the sender's actual email address.

• Don’t click a link unless you’re expecting it and know where it leads.

• Block the sender within your own email account.
